The Rams made 3 changes from the Bank Holiday win against Trafford. The New Saints loanee Josh Hmami made his debut. Nic Evangelinos & Martin Parker also came into the side to replace Karl Jones, Khalil Osi-Efa & Jamie Rother.

Rams keeper Tom Stewart was called into action early on, he claimed an early cross into the box from Pontefract, Josh Hmami had his first shot as a Rammy player his shot went into the car park behind the goal. Burnley loanee Teddy Perkins was called into action with a well-timed tackle to deny a shot from Pontefract’s Gavin Rothery on 12 minutes.

Irywah Gooden put a ball across for Ruben Jerome on 20 minutes but his shot was scuffed and it went high and wide. Nic Evangelinos had an attempt on goal 7 minutes later but Pontefract keeper Mackowski claimed it well.

Pontefract took the lead on the half-hour, Jameel Ible rose through the Rams defence to head the Yorkshire side into a 1-0 lead.

Both teams had little chances in the final 15 minutes of the half, Ruben Jerome was booked in first-half stoppage time for a collision with a Pontefract player.

The home side doubled their lead five minutes into the second half, Michael Dunn passed across the box to Vaughan Redford who slotted home from close range.

Just before the hour mark, Pontefract had a good chance to add a third, Joe Lumsden’s shot was blazed over from close range.

Chris Willcock made his change shortly after that, Anointed Chukwu replaced debutant Josh Hmami.

In the final 20 minutes, the game started to slow down, Gooden & Kennedy both had chances but they were claimed by the Pontefract keeper Sebastian Mackowski, who has one Poland cap to his name.

Mason Fawns, who came on for the Rams in the second half, his cross into the box three minutes from time went wide of the right-hand post.

The Rams suffered there first defeat of the season and they’ll look to get back to winning ways at Winsford in the FA Cup on Monday.
