Ramsbottom United have been named the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Club of the Month for October after they went through the month unbeaten in five games, scoring 14 goals and conceding just 3.

The final score with all the goals coming in the last 10 minutes somewhat flattered a rather insipid Rams performance as they eventually saw off the challenge of North West Counties League outfit West Didsbury and Cholton in the Lancashire FA Trophy.

Whitby spooked by last gasp winner

The Rams will be glad to see the back of young Shane Bland, the Whitby goalkeeper.  For the third game in succession, he repelled the Rams strike force like garlic repels vampires such that despite dominating the match from almost first kick to last, it was not until deep into time added on that the Rams finally broke the home team's resistance and only then in somewhat controversial circumstances.

With his 90th minute penalty in the 4-0 victory over Whitby Town on Tuesday evening, striker Jon Robinson became just the third Ramsbottom United player to reach the milestone of 100 goals for the club.

Winning run goes on with Whitby success

This game was remarkable for some outstanding goalkeeping by Shane Bland in the Whitby nets, a level of wastefulness in front of goal by the Rams that would leave a Russian oligarch shamefaced and last but not least Jon Robinson's 100th goal for the club.
